Ryanne's Science Experiment

Over Christmas vacation, Ryanne had two school projects to complete.
The first was her science fair project.

She worked with her classmate, Monica on
figuring out which animal has the
germiest, dirtiest mouth.

They swabbed several animals' mouths (including their own),

and rubbed the swab on a sterilized agar plate.
They made their own agar.

It was fun having Monica over to work with Ryanne.

Here is one of the subjects the girls tested:
Nutmeg, our bunny.

Another subject:
Princess, Ryanne's cat.

We also had our neighbor's dog, Doyle.

And one of Ryanne's friends let us come over
to swab her horse

and her goat's mouths.

Here you can see some nasty things growing after about
a week of incubation.  The labels read, from left to right,
Goat, Rabbit, and Ryanne

I guess Ryanne cleaned her mouth quite well.

The rabbit also had very little grow from it's culture.

The goat, on the other hand,
was the winner of the dirtiest mouth,
with the horse pulling a close second.
The dog and cat were tied in the middle.

Ryanne was very proud of the job she and Monica did.
They won a first place ribbon for their work!

"Yeah me!"

Here is her second project.
For Social Studies she had to build and
label a model castle.  She had to include certain things
and do a page of research on castles.

It turned out quite well and
she got an A.

Here is another of her experiments: Suction and vacuums.

Lastly, she discovered that if she tried to kiss
the camera lens, the camera would go away!
Goodbye!
