Scout Hike

Since our scouts didn't have leaders available for a time, and Mckay needed to pass of a hiking requirement, we decided to take the pack on a 3 mile hike.

Here we are outside; we are going to hike up in the foothills behind our house.
Elias, Mason, Troy, Mckay, David, and Nathan are ready to hike and pick up some trash.

Elias is not a scout, but he gets to come along.
David and Nathan are true scouters; they look sharp in their uniforms.

Nathan and David lead us up the dirt road.

Somewhere nearby, Mason and Kate are pretending to be prairie dogs on a a rock.
Kate came to keep Ryanne company on the hike.

Here are those two cute prairie dogs again.

Here we go up the way; Elias makes sure that no one falls behind.

Don't tell anyone that we climbed over a fence.  We'd probably be banished from scouting forever!
Kate thinks it's a great idea; I guess she has no qualms about trespassing.  Actually, she's probably just smiling because she can climb over this fence twice as fast as any of the boys.  Go Kate!

Ryanne squeezes through a crack and makes a leap.

Wes is explaining some deep myth or story of ancient folklore.

Now he is telling the kids that if they don't get to that
peak up there, they will all die.

"What? None of you believe me?"

Lets move out hikers and conquer this mountain (hill).

"Hey! this is steep."

"Weeds are getting in my socks,
can I go home now?"

"No wining allowed, if Kate can do it, so can you!"

"Come on Brother Andrews! "Keep hiking."

Troy wonders if everyone else will catch up to him.
"Come on! You can do it!"

Troy continues to lead the pack.

Now Kate reaches the top and calls back encouragement.

"Whew, that hill tired me out! And I'm hot."

We made it.

Gathered around a lovely landmark--the Yucca.
And there is San Bernardino spread out behind them.

"We can see our houses form up here!"

Glad to be heading home.
When we got back from the hike, we locked all the kids up in jail.

Not really.  They climbed up in our fort for a gourmet
dinner of hot dogs and chips.

"In you go Elias, join the pack."
