The Corn Palace

You can't drive through Mitchell, South Dakota and not stop at the world's only Corn Palace!
We drove to the corn palace after we saw the County Courthouse.
I had been to the Corn Palace a long time ago . . . when I was eight-years-old.  I remember being so awed by the murals of corn!

Here is a picture of the Corn Palace the year I saw it!

So long ago . . . all the way back in

To be honest, going back as an adult was kind of a let-down.  It was pretty much a glorified gift shop.  The murals were not as numerous or as awesome as I remembered in my eight-year-old mind.  Still, it was fun to see and I am glad we stopped.

A map of the state.  Wes an Leah are by Mitchell, and the other three kids are pointing to Rapid City--where we are headed!

All these murals are made out of teensy individual kernals of hardened, colorful seed corn.  It is amazing.

We saw a few spots where mice had nibbled on the murals.
We even saw some murals that had gotten a little wet and the kernals had started growing!

 Standing with the Ear.

 Definitely corny.

 No doubt about it!
