Cello

At the end of third grade Mckay's class went to a local high school to listen to a concert. They heard the band and also the high school orchestra. Mckay enjoyed himself but never said more than five words about the experience. Little did we know he had a plan hatching in his mind.

Since he is already taking piano lessons, I didn't imagine he would want to start another instrument in the fourth grade . . . he likes to play and I just figured he wouldn't want something extra to take up his time. When he brought home the paper for instrument sign-ups, I almost tossed it, but decided I'd better ask him first, just in case.
"Oh," he responded to my inquiry, "I definitely want to take music at school. I'm going to play the cello."
"What?!"
"You know, the Cello."
"How do you know what a cello is?"
" I saw one at the concert I went to."
"Are you sure you want to do this? You know it will be an extra twenty minutes of practicing every day on top of twenty minutes for piano." (Now don't get me wrong, I was thrilled that he wanted to do this, but I had to make sure he was serious and committed about it).
"I'm sure mom, I'm sure!"

So now Mckay plays cello. His music instructor was thrilled as the school has not had a cello player for fourteen years! He looks pretty small when carrying the big thing about . . .

Way to go Mckay! Good luck on the practicing. Kids crack me up with what they are thinking and wanting to do. Good thing you didn't just toss the paper.

I love your yard progress, It's fun to look at and I feel a bit jelous because ours still needs LOTS of work. I hope you don't mind me checking in on you every now and then :)

And Hello to Jennifer! I would love to see pictures of your family. (if you check back here again)
